Hi everyone, I hope that you all had a great
month, it is hard to believe that we are in the
fourth quarter already. We will have two
speakers this month; Tommy Burns will be updating
us on a new program at the University of Phoenix
and our keynote speaker - NV Child Seekers, who
will be bringing along their human trafficking
liaison.
Since the end of the year is quickly
approaching, it is time to start thinking about
nominees for the board. Ed has been working
diligently on searching out nominees, so please
get with him if you are interested in
running. We are also looking for volunteers
for our committees for next year. We are
looking for chairs for the following committees:

done an outstanding job in these two
positions. National awarded our chapter with

K9s and Their Applications in
Transportation Security
October
19
12pm
Eastern Standard Time
90
minutes
About
the program:
All phases of transportation are
featured: from the New York Staten Island Ferry to
the monorail in Las Vegas, from airports to
seaports, from passenger to cargo screening.
This program briefly reviews the
events of 9/11, focusing on the K9 teams'
activities in recovery efforts and mentions the
police K9 killed in the collapse of tower two.
From there it outlines the level of K9 deployment
prior to 9/11 and how drastically it has increased
in military, government, law enforcement, and the
private sector with a focus on the private sector.
It concludes with TSA's latest decision to
outsource cargo inspection to private K9
companies.
Other topics covered include the
following:
- The efficiency and reliability of
K9 teams
- A cost comparison with vapor and
x-ray machines
- How to choose K9 vendors if needed
full time or for special operations
- Unseen K9 teams
- The financial obligations of having
either an in-house or vendor K9 program
- Knowing when and where it's prudent
to deploy these teams
- Distinguishing a professionally
trained team from one that is not
A properly trained K9 team can be
an excellent public relations tool and a very
effective deterrent to criminal activity and
potential terrorists.

educational and networking opportunities for members,
and the advancement of security worldwide. And,
referring members has added benefits for you and your
chapter!

employer (company) or phone number on the membership
application line: Person who introduced you to
ASIS, you get the credit. And we keep track of your
recruitment activity for you. It's that simple.
Sometimes, it may be more convenient or
more appropriate for you to provide us with the contact
information for an prospective member, and we take the
next step. Complete the online Referral Form and ASIS will
send the individual(s) information and an application.
However, you won't be considered the "recruiter" unless
