Chairman's
Corner
The Las
Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has
generously donated two tickets to the upcoming
17th Annual Tourism Safety Conference to be held
10-12 May. If you have not been to this
conference in the past, you really should consider
attending. See the ad below for further
information. As for the two free tickets, we
will hold two drawings to award one ticket
each. The drawing is open to all paid
members of Chapter 060, so bring your business
cards to enter! Speaking of paid
members, I want to thank the 92 members who have
sent in their 2010 dues. We still need to
hear from the remaining 132 members who have not
sent in their $30 annual
dues. The Chapter would really
like to present a training seminar this
year. If you would like to work on the
education committee to make this happen, please
let me know.
Remember, the Chapter Scholarship application
period ends May 7. If you have any employees,
relatives or friends who might benefit from this
program, be sure to point them to an application
available on the Chapter web site on the Education
page. Be Safe!

About the
program: Technology has
dramatically changed the way we compete for talent
and screen prospective employees, but nothing
approaches the impact of social networking. With
the widespread use of Facebook, LinkedIn, and
other sites comes a new wave of legal liabilities
for both recruiters and screeners. Other emerging
technology threats include online diploma fraud,
employment mills that manufacture work experience,
screen scraping, and more. Employers need to
develop best practices and policies in order to
successfully manage Web 2.0 technologies.
Learn how to protect your
company in the age of Facebook. Review the social
networking sites that are the most popular with
recruiters and applicants, and see how they impact
employment screening and the hiring process. Learn
how to develop a social media policy and spot the
warning signs of diploma and employment mills.
Finally, you'll examine other Web 2.0 trends such
as screen scraping and instant screening.

Chapter
Dues

As you know, the Las Vegas Chapter is
solely funded by member dues. Member dues
for 2010 remain at previous years' amount of
$30.00. Each member will be receiving an
e-mail from the Chapter Chairman via a service
called Intuit Billing Manager. This free
service allows the chapter to maintain a list of
members, invoice and track payments via a secure
online service. We elected not to go with
the additional cost required to process credit
card payments. You will be able to pay the
invoice with cash, check or money order in person
at any meeting. You may also remit payment
by check or money order to our mailing
address. In either case, the invoice will
contain a second remittance page that contains
your invoice number. Please bring that with
you or include it with your payment so we can
insure proper credit. In the past we have
had companies pay for the member dues and have had
difficulty determining which member that payment
was for. We will not be billing the two ASIS
Life Members or three student members. We
thank you for your continued support of the Las
Vegas Chapter!
Dues paid by members are
not deductible as charitable contributions for
federal income tax purposes. However,
membership dues are deductible for members under
Section 162 of the Internal Revenue Code as an
ordinary and necessary business
expense. |

Every time you recruit a new member, you
strengthen ASIS. A vital and growing membership means
greater recognition of the security profession, improved
educational and networking opportunities for members,
and the advancement of security worldwide. And,
referring members has added benefits for you and your
chapter!
If they join and put your name and
employer (company) or phone number on the membership
application line: Person who introduced you to
ASIS, you get the credit. And we keep track of your
recruitment activity for you. It's that simple.
Sometimes, it may be more convenient or
more appropriate for you to provide us with the contact
information for an prospective member, and we take the
next step. Complete the online Referral Form and ASIS will
send the individual(s) information and an application.
However, you won't be considered the "recruiter" unless
