Exhibits, as well as specific security
topics. ASIS also advocates the role and

business, the media, government entities and the
public.

Chairman's
Corner
It's March Madness in Las
Vegas! Hopefully it won't be too crazy for
those of you working in gaming. Several
large events this time of year are always good for
the economy. Last month we had a nice
turn out of about 37 and two fine speakers
discussing various aspects of IT security.
Shirley Pierini, CPP, PCI, former ASIS President
and Member of the Board was in town and stopped
in. She had some favorable comments to say
about the chapter and I was glad that the board
and committee members were able to hear
that. Shirley also brought two bottles of
wine in a travel bag for an auction. Tommy
Burns won, but then gave it away to Susan
Shaffer. See the chapter report below for
further information. There are a
variety of training events occurring in town, so
be sure to check out the listings below. I
want to thank the members who have paid the annual
chapter dues. The dues are what funds the
activities of the chapter. One of those
functions is our annual William (Bill) Cornelius
Memorial Scholarship. Applications are being
accepted through May 7. Contact Art Berry if
you have additional questions. A copy of the
requirements and application form can be found on
our website under Education.
Remember the ASIS Membership
drive "Reach Out" is on for 2010! You
recruit or refer members and you can win prizes
for yourself and the Chapter. Look at the
side bar article on the right for more
information. Look forward to seeing
you this Thursday the 18th.
Be
Safe!

A Note
from the Webmaster
Our Website has expanded as of
March 3, 2010. We've added a page which will
provide a way in which the Chapter committees can
relay information to our
members.
We've recently begun using analytics on our
Web site and we've found that readership has gone
up steadily over the last few months. The
first two months of 2010 saw an increase in site
visits of 29% over the final two months of 2009.
The percentage of those visits which were new rose
from 46% to 60% during the same periods. Not only
are we attracting more visitors, but a larger
percentage of them are first time visitors.
The site is updated at least a couple of
times a month. While we add upcoming
training to this newsletter, we also add it
(usually in more detail) to the Website.
Training with shorter lead times is likely to
appear on the Website sooner than it does in the
newsletter.
We may also announce training via our Twitter, Facebook or Linked-In accounts, so it may
be of benefit to subscribe to those services
also. |

About
the program: Cloud computing has taken
hold as a mainstream business option with nearly
half of companies using it, and another 40%
planning to. What is Cloud Computing and
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and how are they
relevant to physical and electronic security
services today? This webinar targets those with a
responsibility for, or interest in, physical and
electronic security solutions and introduces and
explains cloud computing and SaaS. It covers
associated terms and provides insight into the key
topics associated with SaaS that need to be
considered if you're considering it as a contender
for physical and electronic security services.
About
the program:Technology has
dramatically changed the way we compete for talent
and screen prospective employees, but nothing
approaches the impact of social networking. With
the widespread use of Facebook, LinkedIn, and
other sites comes a new wave of legal liabilities
for both recruiters and screeners. Other emerging
technology threats include online diploma fraud,
employment mills that manufacture work experience,
screen scraping, and more. Employers need to
develop best practices and policies in order to
successfully manage Web 2.0 technologies.
Learn how to
protect your company in the age of Facebook.
Review the social networking sites that are the
most popular with recruiters and applicants, and
see how they impact employment screening and the
hiring process. Learn how to develop a social
media policy and spot the warning signs of diploma
and employment mills. Finally, you'll examine
other Web 2.0 trends such as screen scraping and
instant screening.

Chapter
Dues
As you know, the Las Vegas Chapter is
solely funded by member dues. Member dues
for 2010 remain at previous years' amount of
$30.00. Each member will be receiving an
e-mail from the Chapter Chairman via a service
called Intuit Billing Manager. This free
service allows the chapter to maintain a list of
members, invoice and track payments via a secure
online service. We elected not to go with
the additional cost required to process credit
card payments. You will be able to pay the
invoice with cash, check or money order in person
at any meeting. You may also remit payment
by check or money order to our mailing
address. In either case, the invoice will
contain a second remittance page that contains
your invoice number. Please bring that with
you or include it with your payment so we can
insure proper credit. In the past we have
had companies pay for the member dues and have had
difficulty determining which member that payment
was for. We will not be billing the two ASIS
Life Members or three student members. We
thank you for your continued support of the Las
Vegas Chapter!
Dues paid by members
are not deductible as charitable contributions for
federal income tax purposes. However,
membership dues are deductible for members under
Section 162 of the Internal Revenue Code as an
ordinary and necessary business
expense. |
