Chairman's
Corner
On behalf of the executive
board, we hope you all had a wonderful holiday and
new years. I look forward to seeing you all
at the first meeting of 2010 on Thursday January
21 at the Tuscany.
Unfortunately there has been another
law enforcement murder in the short days of
2010. Court security officer/special deputy
United States marshal Stanley Cooper was shot
while in the performance of his duties at the
Lloyd D. George federal courthouse on January
4th. Cooper, 72, retired from Las Vegas
Metro as a sergeant after more than 26
years. Las Vegas Metro and the Department of
Justice insured arrangements were made for family,
the services, etc. While Cooper was an
employee of a private security firm, contracted by
the DoJ, those officers were sworn as special
deputy US marshal's making them federal law
enforcement officers while on
duty. Below you will see items
regarding the chapter dues. We decided to
keep the annual chapter dues at the previous
amount of $30.00. All members will receive
an invoice via email (or US Mail for those whom we
do not have an email address for) and can either
pay in cash, check or money order in person at a
meeting or mail a check or money order
to the chapter address. We did
vote to increase the monthly luncheon fee from the
previous $10.00 per person to $15.00. This
covers the full amount of the catering, which the
chapter could not continue to subsidize.
Because we communicate primarily via
email, it is important that we have your current
email address for our records. If
you have changed your email address, please
email me at chairman@asis-lasvegas.org with
your name, company and new email
address. Special Agent in
Charge of the Las Vegas Federal Air Marshal
Service office and chapter member, Doug Hladky
will present an overview of the FAMS
program. I want to thank Doug as he stepped
in with short notice. Hope to
see you Thursday for our first meeting of
2010! Be Safe!

Upcoming
Training:

Understanding the Violent Mind in
the Workplace
January 27, 2010 @ Noon
Eastern U.S.
About the
program: As the economy
continues to fall, workplace violence is expected
to rise rapidly. Understand the attitudes,
beliefs, and mental images of perpetrators from
psychological and law enforcement perspectives and
learn effective redirection strategies. Components
of a defensible workplace violence program will be
presented to help participants determine the
effectiveness of their own programs.
***** Web 2.0: Investigations
That Move Beyond Google
February 17, 2010 @ noon Eastern
U.S.
About the
program: Web 2.0-a fairly new Internet
feature- allows you to vet hires, conduct due
diligence pre-acquisition, prevent competitive
intelligence, and identify problem employees
before workplace violence or intellectual property
theft occurs. It must be understood, however,
before it can utilized by investigators and
security professionals. This presentation moves
beyond Web 2.0 and reviews options such as social-
and photo-network Web sites, mapping tools, and
other Internet features that can be used for
intelligence gathering and security
assessments. Click for more information and to
register. |

Chapter
Dues
As you know, the Las Vegas
Chapter is solely funded by member dues.
Member dues for 2010 remain at previous years'
amount of $30.00. Each member will be
receiving an e-mail from the Chapter Chairman via
a service called Intuit Billing Manager.
This free service allows the chapter to maintain a
list of members, invoice and track payments via a
secure online service. We elected not to go
with the additional cost required to process
credit card payments. You will be able to
pay the invoice with cash, check or money order in
person at any meeting. You may also remit
payment by check or money order to our mailing
address. In either case, the invoice will
contain a second remittance page that contains
your invoice number. Please bring that with
you or include it with your payment so we can
insure proper credit. In the past we have
had companies pay for the member dues and have had
difficulty determining which member that payment
was for. We will not be billing the two ASIS
Life Members or three student members. We
thank you for your continued support of the Las
Vegas
Chapter! |
