Las Vegas Chapter 060
ASIS is the preeminent international organization for
security professionals, with more than 36,000 members
worldwide. ASIS was founded in 1955 and is dedicated to
increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security
professionals by developing educational programs and materials that
address broad security interest, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and
Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. ASIS also
advocates the role and value of the security management professional
to business, the media, government entities and the public.
The Las Vegas ASIS Chapter # 060 was chartered on August 29, 1976.

Chairman's Corner
Welcome
to the new and improved Chainlink Newsletter. We hope you like
the new format.
This month's speaker is our very own Carri Holmes, with Ingersoll
Rand Security Technologies, and she has important information about
fire doors. Carri will keep us up to date with the latest code
information.
Good article below from Stratfor (a great intelligence asset by the
way) about the violence in Mexico, sent in by Tommy Burns.
There are also good articles out there on the subject by Forbes and
the Wall Street Journal. I suppose the good news is that the
majority of violent, drug-related deaths are of Mexican government
officials and those involved in the drug trade. The bad news,
however, is that some innocents get in the way, the violence is
increasing, several cartels are thinking of joining together, and
there are other economic issues in Mexico that could cause a
meltdown. Perhaps this is good news for Las Vegas resorts
looking for an uptick in business from "Spring Breakers"
looking for a safer alternative.
The Chapter is still in search of a LCD projector for use in our
meetings and presentations. Please let us know if you are aware
of one for under $400.00.
Please also remember that it's time for Chapter dues. These
funds help support the efforts of the Chapter. If you are not
able to attend the luncheon meetings, see the item below on how to
send in your dues payment for 2009.
I don't need to remind you of the current economic times, so if you
are aware of any security related positions available, please contact
our Chapter Placement Chairman, Jason Porter, so he can help disseminate
that information to those who need it.
I hope to see you this Thursday, March 19th, at the Chapter meeting.

Mexico: The
Third War
Member Tommy Burns, CPP, has submitted a copy of a Stratfor report on the
violence in Mexico. The report is an analysis of the attacks by
criminal kidnapping gangs on innocent Mexican citizens, tourists, and
business travelers .
The U.S Joint Forces Command recently issued a report which concluded
that Mexico has the potential for a rapid collapse. Las Vegas is not
very far from the Mexican border. We also have a large Mexican
population and many visitors from Mexico. The potential exists for
the problems in Mexico to move north to our neighborhood.
The Stratfor report has been posted on our Web site at: http://www.asis-lasvegas.org/mexico_the_third_war_stratfor_200902.pdf.

The
2009 Reach Out! campaign runs from January 1, 2009 through November 30,
2009. Awards will be announced in January 2010.
Recruiting
a member is easy when you find yourself interacting with colleagues at
meetings, online, on the job, or while networking. Simply tell your
colleague(s) how you have benefited from your membership in ASIS and
suggest that they visit
www.asisonline.org/store/membership.html
to learn more
about membership and to join.
If they decide to apply for membership, they'll need to put your name
and employer (company) or phone number on the membership application
line: Person who introduced you to ASIS. If they join, you get the
credit. And we keep track of your recruitment activity for you. It's
that simple.
Sometimes, it may be more convenient or more appropriate
for you to provide us with contact information for an individual who is
a candidate for membership, and we take the next step. Complete the
online Referral Form and submit it to ASIS electronically. ASIS will
send the individual(s) information and an application. However, you
won't be considered the "recruiter" unless the new member
provides your name on the application as the person who introduced
him/her to ASIS
There are awards for individuals and for Chapters.
For more information see the page on the national site at this
location,
http://www.asisonline.org/membership/reachout/default.xml
For further information about membership issues, contact the Membership
Chairman, C.T. Seidl, CPP
