Chairman's Corner
I hope you will join us at our Chapter meeting Thursday
the 19th. We have a nationally known expert on the subject of
workplace violence, threat management and stalking, John Lane
speaking. I first heard John speak at one of several
Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) seminars in
Anaheim, CA where he presented before hundreds. This should be an
interesting presentation. I'm sure I don't need to point out
the timeliness of this topic with the current economy and companies
having to cut back on their labor force.
I have been discussing with the board a variety of topics
to include a member survey to measure your interest in speakers,
events, communication and fund raising. We are presently
researching some issues regarding communicating with the membership
and insuring we are reaching the entire 250 or so members in our
chapter. Steve Baker is heading up our Education Committee and
will be putting together a proposal regarding a seminar later this
year. We are also looking over options regarding our
newsletter, website and advertizing potential on each.
Jason Porter has stepped into our Placement Committee
position. Please be sure to pass along any information you may
receive regarding open positions in security management to him. Our
Private Security Services Liaison position is still open, so anyone
with experience in the private security sector who would like to
volunteer, please let Vice Chairman Derk Boss know.
There are several regional events mentioned in the
newsletter. A workplace violence seminar in Santa Monica, CA
Mar 5-6, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter (GLAC) is presenting a
security seminar Mar 10-11 at the Pachanga Resort and the Northern
Nevada Chapter is presenting a security seminar April 8 in
Reno. See below for further details.
The new Regional Vice-President (RVP) for this region is Gene
James from San Diego, CA. He is anticipating attending our
March meeting. Additionally, as part of his get acquainted
communications with me and other chapter chairs, he was reviewing
the chapter websites. He mentioned the Las Vegas site along
with GLAC, San Fernando and San Diego as outstanding. Kudos to
our webmaster, Walt Quering!
In closing, remember that this chapter is here for you, the
member. Please contact a member you know who has not been in
attendance of late (perhaps that is you) and encourage them to come
to a meeting. Invite a security professional who is not a
member. If you want to present at a meeting, please contact
Mike Wiley. If you or any firm you know related to the
security industry desires to sponsor a lunch meeting, please contact
Glenda Grey-Meyer. Look forward to seeing you Thursday the
19th.
